The design language draws heavily from medieval stave churches and how they decorated and emphasized the transitions between different parts and directions in the construction.
From the ground, two incised lines mark the start of the base of the column.
And the red profile marks the transition to the column.
The column tapers in one direction to more naturally meet the beam that it supports. As a result of the tapering, a triangle is also formed, pointing upward and outward in the direction of the beam.
In the round base, the table has no direction, but through the column’s transition to the beam the direction becomes more “longitudinal,” creating a kind of transformation from round to oval.
The base is made from a single piece of oak. The top is made of linden wood and painted with linseed oil paint.
